About

Duncan Jourdan is a Band Instuctor, working with three schools in Western Jackson County, Georgia. After graduation from the University of Georgia, Jourdan began floating between West Jackson Middle School, Legacy Knoll Middle School, and Jackson County High School. This position provides him the unique opportunity to work alongside multiple phenomenal colleagues and hundreds of incredible young musicians, ranging from grade 6-12. 

Jourdan is a native of Monroe, GA where he began his musical journey playing the piano and clarinet. Jourdan received many awards and accolades for his hard work in high school, pushing him toward a career in music education.

At the University of Georgia, Jourdan performed with UGA's Wind Symphony and the esteemed Hodgson Wind Ensemble. He also found his first opportunity to try his hand at teaching in the classroom, working with Karisa Seymour and the Morgan County Middle School Clarinet Section. For two years, he taught sections and private lessons to these students before moving to begin his next teaching journey. 

In the Fall of 2024, Mr. Jourdan student taught with the bands at Jackson County High School under his mentor teacher Mr. William Kilgore. During the day he had the opportunity to instruct the school's three concert ensembles. Then as the end of the day broke, rehearsal began for the award-winning marching band. As a musical and visual instructor, Mr. Jourdan helped the Jaxco Marching Band take the field for multiple grand championships that season.

Jourdan's mentors include William Kilgore, Nicholas E. Williams, D. Alan Fowler, Shiree X. Williams, Jaclyn Hartenberger, and D. Ray McClellan. His professional associations include GMEA, NAfME, and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity. Currently, he resides in his hometown of Monroe, GA with his beautiful orange cat, Dave.

 Mission

To strive for excellence in musical objectives while guiding students to develop a lasting relationship with music that sustains beyond the classroom. This is accomplished through varied instruction and building constructive relationships between students, peers, music, and the world at large.
